Generally parking in Italy is on the right side of the road. Parking is very difficult to find in Venice and it is best to leave your hire car in one of the mainland car parks from where you can take a bus or ferry to the city. The parking facility at Mestre is well-known for the number of thefts that occur there so make sure that you do not leave anything in the car or make sure any valuables are well hidden from view. In the Tronchetto garage park on the left side and not on the right.
